Veterans’ Day Program continues to grow in popularity, presented in front of packed gym

The Clinton County Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Bulldog Battalion hosted its annual Veteran’s Day Assembly Friday afternoon in front of the entire high school student body, along with veterans and many spectators from the public. The event was also co-hosted by the Clinton County High School Band.

In an event that is unique every year, this year, the assembly’s theme was “Letter From Home.”

The event began at 1:10 with Master Sergeant John Thomure providing the welcoming remarks to the audience.

Battalion Commander Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Jared Upchurch commanded the posting of the colors by the JROTC Color Guard while the National Anthem was performed by the Clinton County High School Band under the direction of Doug Sell.

Cadet Chaplain Chase Claborn led the assembly in prayer followed by Thomure with a history of Veterans’ Day.

The ceremony continued with the posting of the flags, including the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Air Force. When each flag was presented, veterans in the crowd stood up to honor each branch of armed forces.

The JROTC also recognized the “Missing Man Roll Call” with a 21-gun salute and “Taps” performed by the band and also “Go Rest High on That Mountain” by Vince Gill was performed by CWO Ron Cook.

After the ceremony, veterans stood as spectators shook each one of their hands to thank them for their service.

The program lasted nearly 45 minutes in front of a packed house, including the entire student body, teachers and staff. The public was also invited to attend as well as veterans and those currently serving in the Armed Forces.

Several students from the Early Childhood Center were present during the ceremony to hand out items to the veterans who were present. Above, a ECC student handed Jim Penneycuff a piece of paper after his name was called during roll call.

The JROTC presented the Missing Man Roll Call followed by the rifle squad salute and Taps performed by the CCHS Band under the direction of Doug Sell.
