16th District round 1

Seems like we just got this roundball season underway, but already here we are staring right down the throat of the holiday tournament season and looking at Clinton County’s full round one of games against 16th District opponents being over after this weekend.

Wait – we did just get this roundball season underway, but that’s the way it goes.

In times past, there were a couple of “easy” games built in to the start of each basketball season, but with the delay of starting dates a few years ago, new schools that had to be played, and contract obligations, the basketball season gets off and running each year with big games, district games and all of a sudden holiday tournaments.

That’s where we find ourselves already.

Last week, we went up against Metcalfe County and on Tuesday night of this week (too late for coverage this week), we traveled over to Burkesville to take on Cumberland County.

This Friday night, our Lady Dawgs and Bulldogs will play host to neighboring rival Russell County and those games will mark – at least for Clinton County – the first full round of games against 16th District opponents.

Of course for the past several years, district games mean much more than just bragging rights, as those results set up the post-season 16th District Tournament pairings.

Then next week, we move straight into the holiday tournaments, two each for the ladies and two each for the boys.

Our Lady Dawgs hit the road for Bowling Green to take part in the Warren East Lady Raider Holiday Hoops Classic Monday, December 19 through December 21.

The Lady Raider lineup will include our Lady Dawgs, Cumberland County, Collins High School, Warren East, Caverna, Glasgow, Ohio County and our first opponent, University Heights.

The Lady Dawgs first appearance will be

At the same time, our Bulldogs will stay in Clinton County to play host to four other teams in our own – and now very prestigious, Twin Lakes Holiday Classic.

Coming to Albany this year will be York Institute, Monterey High School, South Warren and Nelson County for the “Pool” style tournament event that will see games being played in “The Castle” Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

On the back side of Christmas, our Lady Dawgs will be staying home to play host in our own prestigious Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic while the Bulldogs will be headed northeast to Brownsville for the Caveland Classic.

More about those last two events next week.

Included this week near this column are the lineups for next week’s tournaments, both of which should provide some fantastic high school basketball action.

Did that get busy enough for you?

I’ll see you in the gym?
