The Clinton County Lady Dawgs struggled last week on the hardwood, picking up three losses in as many outings.
Clinton County hosted Monroe County on Tuesday night, falling 72-37, was defeated by Metcalfe County on Friday night 69-44, and lost to Greenwood on Saturday 60-38, to move to 1-4 on the season.

In Saturday’s matchup, the Lady Dawgs traveled to Greenwood High School for the 4th Region matchup.
Clinton County fell behind early in the game by two points at the end of the first quarter, 12-10. In the second quarter, Greenwood put up 15 points to Clinton County’s five to lead at the half, 27-15.
By the end of the third quarter, Greenwood had added to its lead by scoring 18 points to Clinton County’s six, 45-21. The Lady Dawgs scored 17 in the final period, which was two more than Greenwood, but the damage had already been done as Greenwood took the win, 60-38.

On Friday night, Clinton County hosted Metcalfe County for the first game of the 16th District regular season competition. Clinton County didn’t fare well in the contest, being defeated 69-44.
In the first quarter, Clinton County played well despite trailing 5-0 early. The Lady Dawgs put together a 13-0 run to lead 13-5 with 2:40 remaining.
Metcalfe County put together a 6-0 run to cut the lead to two points with under two minutes to play. Allee Hopper scored a bucket in the final 45 seconds of the quarter to lead by four, 15-11.
In the second quarter, Clinton County started to show signs of fatigue and Metcalfe County slowly chipped away at Clinton County’s lead. By the end of the half, Metcalfe County went into the locker room with a four point lead over the Lady Dawgs, 26-22.
In the second half, Clinton County cut the lead to one point right out of the gate with a three pointer by Alexis Roberts, 26-25. Metcalfe County answered by scoring the next nine points for a 10 point lead, 35-25. Clinton County never recovered from that scoring run by the Lady Hornets. By the end of the period, Clinton County trailed by 11, 43-32.
The fourth quarter was much of the same as Clinton County struggled on offense and couldn’t contain Metcalfe County on defense. The Lady Hornets reached a 20 point lead at the 4:10 mark, 55-35 and ended up running off with the win, 69-44.

Tuesday night’s game against one of the top rated teams in the region didn’t go as planned for the Lady Dawgs. Monroe County routed Clinton County by a final of 72-37.
Joelie Hicks scored the first two points of the game from the foul line for a quick 2-0 lead. Monroe County scored a basket to tie the score at two, but a three pointer by Bree Boils put the Lady Dawgs up by three points, 5-2.
Monroe County then went to work on the Lady Dawgs, putting up 10 unanswered points for a 15-5 lead with 2:50 on the clock in the first quarter.
The Lady Falcons finished the quarter with nine points while holding Clinton County to only two, for a 24-7 lead after one.
During the second quarter, Clinton County only trailed by one point in the quarter-by-quarter breakdown as Monroe County scored 13 to Clinton County’s 12, however, the lead Monroe County obtained in the first quarter saw the Lady Falcons lead by 18 points at the half, 37-19.
The second half was almost just a formality in order to complete the game for the Lady Falcons as Monroe County jumped out to a 34 point lead by the end of the period, 62-28. By the end of the game, Monroe County had secured the win by putting up 72 points for the game, while Clinton County posted 37.

Clinton County was back in action Tuesday night, too late for press deadline, against Cumberland County and will be back home Friday night to take on Russell County at 6 p.m.
