Lady Dawgs grab two wins in tourney

The Clinton County Lady Dawgs won two of their three games in the Warren East Holiday Hoops Classic at Warren East last week.

As reported in last week’s edition, Clinton County lost its first game to University Heights, 49-28, but picked up wins against Ohio County, 43-28, and Cumberland County, 43-35, to move to 3-7 on the year.

In what was a type of re-match opportunity for the Lady Dawgs, Clinton County faced Cumberland County in last week’s holiday tournament, picking up a revenge win against the Lady Panthers, 43-35.

The Lady Dawgs outscored Cumberland County 15-12 in the first quarter and followed up with a halftime lead at the end of the second quarter, 24-17.

During the third quarter, Clinton County was outscored by the Lady Panthers, 9-8, but remained in the lead after three quarters, 32-26.

In the final quarter, Clinton County outscored the Lady Panthers, 11-9 to secure the win, 43-35.

Cumberland County defeated the Lady Dawgs on December 13 by a final of 55-44, however, Clinton County’s win against Cumberland County will not go on the official district record and will not be considered when the final pairings are determined.

The Lady Dawgs took on Ohio County in the second game of the Warren East Holiday Hoops Classic on Tuesday, December 20. Clinton County picked up its first win of the tournament, 43-28.

In the first quarter, Clinton County took a commanding lead only allowing Ohio County to score one field goal during the first eight minutes, 11-2.

The Lady Dawgs managed to put up 10 points in the second quarter, still outscoring Ohio County, 10-6, for a halftime lead of 21-8.

Both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter for a game score of 33-20 and the Lady Dawgs held strong in the fourth quarter to grab the 43-28 win over Ohio County.

Clinton County will be at home this week to host the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic. Clinton County will play at 8 p.m. on Wednesday against Red Boiling Springs, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday against Monterey and Franklin-Simpson respectively, and the Lady Dawgs will take on North Laurel on Friday at 8 p.m.
