Lady Dawgs pick up win

The Clinton County Lady Dawgs finished the week with a 1-1 record, with Friday night’s game against Metcalfe County being postponed due to weather.

On Tuesday, Clinton County played host to neighboring Pickett County. The Lady Bobcats came into The Castle with a perfect 13-0 record and that record remained perfect after the final buzzer sounded as the Lady Dawgs fell, 70-23.

Saturday, the Lady Dawgs traveled to Russell County to take on Adair County. Clinton County came home with the win, 58-57.

The Lady Dawgs participated in the Hardwood Classic held at Russell County last Saturday, January 12. Clinton County took on Adair County in what turned out to be a very close game in the final minutes.

During the first quarter, Clinton County grabbed an early lead and scored 18 total points in the first eight minutes. Adair County put up 14 to trail the Lady Dawgs by four.

During the second quarter, Adair took the lead and scored 20 points total in the period compared to Clinton County’s 11. At the half, Adair County led the Lady Dawgs, 34-29.

Both teams posted 12 points in the third period, which kept Adair County in the lead by five points, 46-41.

It wasn’t until the final quarter where Clinton County started to catchup and take control of the game. The Lady Dawgs scored 17 total points in the fourth quarter and held Adair County to 11 in order to take the one point victory over the Lady Indians, 58-57.

Pickett County 70

The Lady Dawgs hosted neighboring Pickett County Tuesday night and throughout the first half, played the Lady Bobcats close considering Pickett County has a Tennessee State title contender team.

Pickett County opened the game with a 6-0 run before Clinton County’s Allee Hopper hit two free throws, 6-2. Pickett County then went on a 10-1 run to extend its lead, 16-3. By the end of the period, Pickett County had a 12 point lead, 20-8.

The Lady Dawgs never got anything going on offense for the remainder of the game, nor did they have an answer on defense.

During the second quarter, the Lady Dawgs only posted six points, while Pickett County posted 14, for a halftime score of 34-14.

During the second half, Clinton County’s offense was struggling, scoring zero points in the third quarter. Pickett County posted 17 points to add to its already commanding lead, 51-14,

During the final period, the Lady Dawgs posted nine points, but the previous three quarters proved to be disastrous for Clinton County.

Pickett County finished with the win by a final score of, 70-23.

Clinton County’s next game came Tuesday night, too late for press deadline, against Cumberland County. The Lady Dawgs will travel to Russell County on Friday to take on the Lady Lakers with a 6 p.m. tip off time.

Samantha Flowers went up for a shot Tuesday night against Pickett County. The Lady Dawgs lost the contest 70-23, but did pick up a win on Saturday against Adair County, 58-57.

Senior point guard Bree Boils put up a short jumper in the first half Tuesday night against Pickett County at Lindle Castle Gymnasium. The Lady Dawgs lost the game and have a 6-10 record on the year.
