Just a couple of weeks after the official arrival of the winter season (December 21), residents had their first brush with a snowfall that covered roads Thursday night and Friday morning with a thin layer of ice followed by about a half-inch of snow. Schools were dismissed early Thursday and cancelled Friday because of the weather. Accompanying the snow was a cold front that brought bitter cold temperatures, including a low of five degrees on Saturday morning.
