Odds and ends from a season too
fastly approaching the home stretch
A little hard to believe, but if you take a close look at this 2016-17 basketball schedule, you’ll quickly notice something . . . we’re on the backside of this campaign.
With February just ahead, both our Lady Dawgs and Bulldogs are working on the final single digit number of games remaining to be played before we head into the post-season tournament run.
Special nights in The Castle
Of course the end of regular season basketball also means the arrival of another season – special nights in The Castle.
Here’s a rundown of the events that have been set up (so far) for special observance during the month of February.
February 6 (BJV/BV vs. McCreary Central – 5:30 tip) will be a “Pink Out” night. Everyone is urged to wear pink to the game as an awareness for Cancer – recognizing cancer victims, cancer survivors and raising awareness – and hopefully some money – for cancer research. February 6 will also be Basketball Sweetheart Night.
February 13 (BJV/BV vs. South Warren – 6:00 tip) will be Senior Night for the boys’ basketball players as well as golf and archery.
February 14 (GJV/GV vs. Somerset – 5:30 tip) will be Senior Night for the girls’ basketball players, in addition to recogniing senior members of the Band and the JROTC.
Reasoning for the dual senior nights is, of course, the lack of a home double-header event coming down the final stretch.
Injuries/illness
A couple of get well wishes are in order and we hope this ends it once for all.
First of all, to Lady Bulldog Allee Hopper, who joined the list of Lady Bulldogs who have suffered knee injuries during the past few seasons. Allee was with the team Saturday in a full brace and crutches and was expected to have an MRI on the knee this week. No word yet on the results.
Next, to Bulldog head coach Todd Messer who has been battling a kidney stone problem lately and eventually ended up in the hospital last week in Lexington for surgery.
Todd is out and about and once again menacing game officials from the sidelines, so he must be feeling better.
A Latham reunion
The stands had an inordinate number of members from the local Latham family last Saturday night when the Lady Dawgs took on the Lady Lions from Garrard County.
The local Latham klan came out to watch one of their own members coach the Lady Lions to a victory over Clinton County’s Lady Bulldogs.
Garrard County Head Coach Scott Latham has some deep Clinton County roots. He’s the son of Clinton native Wells “Whiz” Latham and the nephew of Gene, Gary and Mitch Latham, all of whom came out to Saturday’s game, along with cousin Barney.
It’s still January (barely), but March Madness is right around the corner, so . . .
I’ll see you in the gym!
