Dawgs come from behind for ‘W’

The Clinton County Bulldogs traveled to Campbellsville Monday night in what turned out to be a battle to the end.

After trailing by as much as 15 points at one point during the game, the Dawgs rallied and came out on the winning end with a one point victory, 54-53.

Clinton County found itself down early in the game as Campbellsville hit two three pointers in the opening minutes.

The Dawgs cut the lead to two points on two field goals, but Campbellsville put up a field goal and another three pointer to lead 11-4.

A 7-2 run by the Dawgs cut the lead to two, 13-11, but Campbellsville continued to maintain control of the game and hit a three pointer and a field goal to take an 18-11 lead.

Jackson Harlan hit a basket with 20 seconds remaining in the quarter that resulted in a three point play to cut the lead to four points. Campbellsville hit the last shot of the quarter for a six point lead after one, 20-14.

Campbellsville continued to add points to the board in the second quarter. Clinton County’s offense was struggling as the Dawgs trailed at the half by 10 points, 33-23.

At the start of the third quarter, Campbellsville hit a three pointer to open the half and move up by 13.

At the 5:40 mark, Campbellsville reached a 15 point lead, 40-25. With time winding down, Clinton County started to dig and by the end of the period, the Dawgs had cut the lead to eight points, 47-39.

At the start of the fourth quarter, baskets began to fall for Clinton County as the Dawgs put together a 9-4 run. At the 3:20 mark, Jamison Summers fouled out, but with Harlan at the point, he scored a basket at the 3:05 mark to cut the lead to one point, 51-50.

Campbellsville added a basket to push the lead to three with 2:20 remaining in the game, but two foul shots by Harlan cut the lead back to one point, 53-52. With a minute remaining, Clinton County got a steal and with 49 seconds left, Harlan hit a basket that gave Clinton County the lead, 54-53. Campbellsville’s final attempt to grab the win failed and Clinton County prevailed, 54-53.

Clinton County was back in action on Tuesday night, too late for press deadline, as the Dawgs headed to Metcalfe County for a rescheduled district matchup. The Dawgs will be at home on Friday night to host Allen County/Scottsville. The boys will also travel to Jackson County on Saturday for a jv/varsity matchup.
