Former Albany Mayor, Lanny S. Bowlin, 67, Albany, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 at his home. He was the son of the late Alvis and Eula Pearl Penticuff Bowlin. He was a Christian of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Russell, Lawrence and Eugene Palmore “Pal” Bowlin and three sisters, Nell Pierce, Elizabeth Kearney and Bernice Bowlin.

He was elected to the Albany City Council in 1983, elected Albany Mayor in 1985 and re-elected mayor in 1989. At the time of his illness, he had worked for the City of Albany 30 years and at the Albany Water Department Treatment Plant for 20 years, serving as plant manager prior to his retirement in January, 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Claborn Bowlin; a son, Steve (Kim) Bowlin, Cynthiana, Kentucky; two daughters, Melissa (Pat) Campbell; Trisha (Jamie) Miller, all of Albany; three brothers, Jimmy, Gayle and Benny (June) Bowlin; two sisters, Eddie (Paul) Avery and Faye Brown; six grandchildren, Hannah (Tyler) Albertson, Macy Campbell, Carley and Cadence Miller and Sophie and Camden Bowlin; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Campbell-New Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Brown officiating. Final resting place, with the Albany Police Department, Albany Fire Department, City Water Department and Clinton County Sheriff’s Office being represented. Final resting place in Memorial Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Muscular Dystrophy Society. Arrangements were made through Campbell-New Funeral Home of Albany.
