Michael Peter “Mike” Irby

Michael Peter “Mike” Irby, 79, Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Cumberland County Hospital. He was the son of the late James Fate and Marie Tam Irby. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and attended Highland Chapel United Methodist Church. He served as Mayor of Burkesville for two terms, first being elected in 1998 and re-elected in 2002. He also worked two partial years as principal of Albany Elementary School. He served as principal at Burkesville, Marrowbone and Kettle Elementary Schools in Cumberland County until his retirement in 1996 after 34 years as a educator.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Murphy Irby, Burkesville, Kentucky; three daughters, Stacy (Craig) Bohne’, Louisville, Kentucky; Micaela (Eric) Riemer, Glasgow, Kentucky; Laurel Irby, Burkesville, Kentucky; a step-son, Anthony (Elizabeth) Gilbert, Bowling Green, Kentucky; a step-daughter, Beth (Cory) Cash; a sister, Molly Davis, both of Burkesville, Kentucky; also nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Norris-New Funeral Home with Rev. R. Thomas Wilson and Bro. Gary Cash officiating.
