Should Be Grandparent of the Year” essay contest

Three Clinton County Middle School students from the fifth grade have been selected as the top entrants in this year’s “My Grandparent Should Be Grandparent of the Year” essay contest.

Saylor Burchett earned the top prize in the contest, which is sponsored locally by the Clinton County Retired Teachers’ Association.

Saylor wrote her winning essay about her grandmother, whom she calls “Nanny”, Joanne Garner.

Saylor is the daughter of Steve Burchett.

Second place honors in the essay contest went to Landree Moons, who wrote about her “Grandma”, Wilma Moons.

Landree is th daughter of Tim Moons and Ashley King.

Walker Casada penned the third place winning essay about his grandfather, or “Pop”, as he calls him, Glenn Ray Smith.

Walker is the son of Brian and Erin Casada.

The three winners were recognized last week during a meeting of the Clinton County Retired Teachers’ Association.

The Clinton County essay contest is coordinated by Clinton County Middle School Language Arts teacher Kim Stonecipher.
