Frank Zheng, a 2017 member of the Clinton County High School senior class, has been named as one of 16 students to receive the most prestigious academic scholarship awarded by Western Kentucky University, the Cherry Presidential Scholarship.

Zheng, who is an Exploratory/Undeclared major, is the son of Yao Zheng and Wen Juan Chen.

The scholarship is valued at $16,000 annually and worth $64,000 during a four-year period.

The students were among 45 applicants who visited WKU on February 10 for activities that included an interview. In addition to demonstrating outstanding scholastic achievement at the secondary level, applicants submitted personal statements and essays as part of the selection process. The recipients had an average GPA of 3.96 and an average ACT score of 33.
