Pedestrian recovering after being struck by auto Tuesday, April 18

An Albany woman is recuperating after being struck by a vehicle in the Albany City Limits Tuesday night, April 18.

According to Albany City Police, the accident occurred between Sonic Drive-In and the Dollar General Market in north Albany. 911 Dispatch was notified of the incident just before 10 p.m.

The victim, identified as Amber Chaplin, was reportedly walking alongside the street when she was struck by a car being operated by Ricky Stockton, also of Albany.

Chaplin was later transported to an out-of-town hospital suffering from a broken leg and possible other injuries.

The victim posted on social media that her leg was broken in three different places and further described the incident, saying she was “walking beside the sidewalk…in the grass.” She further posted that “I rolled on top of the car and into the windshield…then rolled back down landing on my stomach in the grass.”

Stockton was arrested at the scene and lodged in Clinton County Jail.

According to court records obtained on Friday, April 28, Stockton was charged with three misdemeanor offenses, including reckless driving, no insurance-first and DUI-first degree. He was later released from custody after posting bond.

The accident is being investigated by Albany Police Department, which was assisted at the scene by Clinton County EMS, Albany Fire Department and other emergency personnel.
