About sixty young boys and girls, all hand-picked by Kentucky State Police officers as being “at risk” youth, were at Trooper Island Camp in south-west Clinton County last week, for the final week of camp to close out the 2011 season.
The campers were the last of an eight week camping schedule this year, and were from the Campbellsburg and Frankfort KSP post areas.
The camp, operated by the Kentucky State Police solely on private donations, was established in 1965 and this past camping season was the 47th camping season for the facility, which now includes both boys and girls each week.
The campers spend the week at the camp, living with and sharing experiences with Kentucky State Police officers.
The campers are also exposed each week to a non-demoninational service held at the A-frame chapel on the northwest end of Trooper Island, Upchurch Memorial Chapel.
One of the outreach programs of the Albany First Baptist Church, the service has been led weekly by church member Allen Smith, shown above in the top photo taken during last week’s service.
Other Albany First Baptist members joining the service last week included Jean Maupin and Lisa Smith (not pictured), Mark Maupin, below right photo, and Jim Britt, below left photo.
