Cross says sale of practice will ultimately make way for more surgeons here

Dr. Tracy Cross recently sold his medical practice to Commonwealth Health Center in hopes of bringing more surgeons to Clinton County.

“People will get the same health care they always have,” Cross said.

In order to showcase his practice with Commonwealth Health Corp., an Open House event will be held Friday, August 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the office of Dr. Cross, located at 250 Burkesville Road, Albany.

Cross told the Clinton County News this week that he feels the change will be better because it will add at least two more general surgeons and in the future, will be able to add specialists and sub-specialists in order to keep people from having to travel long distances to get health care.

“There are so many people here who don’t have a way of transportation, so I think for a community that’s in a rural setting, it’s really important when we can get specialist and sub-specialist then they can get care that they can’t get otherwise,” Cross said.

The Open House will include health screenings including, body mass index, colon cancer screenings and blood pressure checks.

“I’m an employee of the Medical Center now and we are having an Open House to show people what kind of new stuff we can offer,” Cross said. “All of the surgeries that we’ve been able to do, we will still be able to do here in the county, but they (The Medical Center) are going to add specialists as time goes on.”

There will also be a ribbon cutting ceremony and food and beverages will be provided. Everyone is invited to attend the event Friday.

Cross has practiced general surgery for 21 years and graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1996 with honors.
