The Clinton County Football team took the first win of the season in its season opener against Fort Knox, 40-18, Friday night.

The Dawgs move to 1-0 on the season with back-to-back road games against Fulton County Friday, August 25, and McCreary Central on September 2.

Head Coach Jamie Miller was excited to see his team in action for the first time in a game situation this past week, however, he said there are several things he wants to work on this week to improve for the next game.

“I was a little nervous at the start,” Miller said. “I don’t know if we were just flat or if it was the first game jitters. We have a lot of young players and some returning players as well, but the first play of a varsity game they were a little nervous.”

During the first series of the game, Clinton County fumbled the kickoff and Fort Knox got the ball close to the goal line. Clinton County then received the ball on a interception, but later turned the ball over again.

“It took us a couple of series, but we finally got to clicking on offense,” Miller said. “After they scored, we went down and scored on them and pretty much controlled the game the rest of the way.”

During the second quarter Clinton County finally settled into a rhythm and at the half, the Dawgs were up 16 points on Fort Knox.

Clinton County’s next game will be Friday night, August 25 as the Dawgs travel to Fulton County.

“Fulton County has struggled in the past and we are going to go over there and try and keep our mind on path,” Miller said. “We have to work on pass protection. Noah (Pruitt) has a great arm and we need to protect him. On the other hand he is a great runner, we have to protect him.”

Miller said he set a goal to win 10 games this season. He expects to meet that goal.

“We want to win 10 games this season so we have the first one,” Miller said. “We have to go out and work hard to get the next one. We focus on one game at a time.”

Dylan Groce broke several tackles during the first quarter of Friday night’s game against Fort Knox. Clinton County won the game 40-18.
