Football team takes second win of the season

The Clinton County Football team grabbed win number two last Friday night after a five and a half hour bus ride to Fulton County, 36-8.

Head Coach Jamie Miller said it was a long ride, but worth it in the end.

“They had one receiver who is one of the top receivers in the state and we pretty much shut him down,” Miller said. “He got frustrated and our defense held strong. They scored on their first play of the game and we finally settled in and took control of the game.”

Miller said his defense did a good job locking Fulton’s key player down for the game.

“You could see it getting in his head and he kind of took himself out of the game,” Miller said. “He was basically their go-to guy and if you take him out of the game it frustrates their offense.”

During the second half, Clinton County’s defense played “light’s out” according to Miller.

“There were a lot of three and outs and a lot of negative plays,” Miller said. “They played really well after that first drive. As far as offense goes, we didn’t have as a productive a week as we did in the game before, but we did some good things.”

Clinton County sits on a 2-0 record for the year with another road trip this Friday night to McCreary County to take on the Raiders.

Miller said the game play is to slow the game down and play more of a grinding offense this week.

He wants to keep their defense on the field as much as possible.

“We’ve had the opportunity to speed it up a few times, but we are going to slow it down this week,” Miller said. “We have several different things we can do. The weeks go by so quick when you’re winning.”
