The Clinton County Football team held Pickett County scoreless in the 68-0 win Friday night at home.

Clinton County took contol of the game early and during the middle of the second quarter, Clinton County had reached the mercy rule for the time clock that kept the clock running for the remainder of the game.

Head Coach Jamie Miller said he wished he could have gotten everyone in, but two players didn’t get to play Friday night and he said he feels terrible about it.

“My hats are off to them. They had the courage to play and to come up here knowing they had a few players out with the suspensions and a head coach out,” Miller said. “We really didn’t have to struggle a lot. We wanted to keep our starters in until half time. We wanted to get everyone in and it was a mis-calculation on our part. We thought we had time to get everyone in.”

Miller said he is going to work to get those players in the next chance he can.

He was also pleased with his backup players and the way they handled themselves on the field.

“I think they scored two or three more touchdowns when we put them in,” Miller said.

Miller has started to see the benefits of having a good feeder program. He said he has a lot of young talent and since football has come back to Clinton County, he is starting to see former players from the early years have kids are in the feeder program. Miller said there are somewhere to 80 to 90 kids in the feeder program.

“With football being installed in their life at an early age it really makes a difference when they get older,” Miller said. “I think we will see improvements this year.”

Next Friday night, Clinton County will travel to Caverna which is 0-3 on the year.

“We are still looking at the schedule one game at a time,” Miller said. “They are pretty quick, but they don’t look very physical which is a strong point for us.”

Dylan Groce gained some yards in the first quarter against Pickett County Friday night. The Dawgs won the game, 68-0 and move to 3-0 on the season.

In memoriam of Assistant Coach Mark “Tank” Dalton, the Football team placed decals of a tank on their helmet as a salute to him for the season.
