New Downtown Revitalization Committee to form with first meeting September 29

How can we renew our downtown areas and restore them to their former importance as a center of community activity?

One of the goals of the Local Foods, Local Places workshop held in August was to transform downtown Albany into a safe and vibrant place where people want to visit, live and work. Successful communities act to create the future they want rather than simply accept the future that comes. To help get things moving and better position our community to take advantage of federal resources over the next few months, a new Downtown Revitalization Committee is being formed.

The Downtown Revitalization Committee will look at the downtown farmers market location and how we can enhance the “square and downtown areas”. This committee needs to include city and county elected official representatives, business owners, producers, tourism representatives, artisans, healthy community champions, youth, etc. Clinton County Extension staff will lead getting the committee developed, but the leadership will come from within the group. If you have ideas on changes that would help our downtown area, then consider volunteering for this committee.

The Downtown Revitalization Committee will have its first meeting on Friday, September 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the Extension Office. A light lunch will be provided. If you have questions, please contact the Extension Office at (606) 387-5404 or email christy.nuetzman@uky.edu.
