Several members of the Clinton County Healthy Hometown Coalition were on hand Friday morning at the Clinton County Board of Education conference room for the joint signing of a proclamation by Albany Mayor Nicky Smith, seated left, and Clinton County Judge/Executive Richard Armstrong.

The Healthy Hometown Coalition board members are a mixture of local educators and professionals as well as several students from Clinton County High School.

The event was held to promote the upcoming Child Health Day in Albany and Clinton County, which will be observed on Monday, October 2. The special day is being observed to recognize that health problems like infant mortality, childhood obesity, asthma and preventable injury and illness call for the community to work together to combat. The effort is designed to bring awareness to the health issues that many children face and the designation of Child Health Day will hopefully encourage a lifelong pattern of healthy living as well as impacting the well-being of children through the encouragement and promotion of healthy lifestyles.

The first Child Health Day was proclaimed by President Calvin Coolidge in 1928, making this year’s observance the 90th.
