If the idea of eating nutritious food seems expensive and difficult, it may be surprising to learn it can be affordable and simple to live a healthy lifestyle.

The University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service makes the healthy choice the easy-and-affordable choice for Kentuckians. Through the Nutrition Education Program’s Healthy Choices for Every Body series, participants focus on building a healthier plate, preparing easy meals that taste great and saving money on groceries.

“Our goal is to help Clinton County residents eat better for less,” said Brooke Jenkins-Howard, curriculum coordinator for the Kentucky Nutrition Education Program. “We provide simple ideas folks can incorporate at home to spend less time in the kitchen and more time with their families.”

Through a series of free classes, participants receive tips and resources for making healthy lifestyle changes, recipe cards and motivation to make improvements for their bodies.

There are a variety of new programs scheduled for November. Make plans to join one or all of them.

On Friday, November 10th beginning at 11:00 am, the Clinton County Extension Office will host a “Tastes of Fall” program, highlighting all of the wonderful flavors and smells that we associate with this time of year.

A “Parent/Child Cooking” class will take place on Tuesday, November 14th at 3:30 pm at the Extension Office. This program is designed to get young folks cooking in the kitchen in a safe, controlled environment. Space for this class is limited for safety reasons so pre-registration is a must.

Finally, a new series “Eating Better on a Budget” will be kicking off on Thursday, November 16th at 5:00 pm and will run twice a month, through December (dates to be determined). This class will focus on the importance of proper nutrition while living on a budget. SNAP eligible families are highly encouraged to attend.

Class registration can be made by contacting the Clinton County Extension Office at 606-387-5404 or emailing stacy.smith@uky.edu. The deadline to register for the Parent/Child Cooking class is Monday, November 13th.
