The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs got its season underway Monday night for the opening against Casey County.

Although it was a close contest early on, the Lady Rebels pulled away in the second half to get a 57-18 win.

Both teams opened up slow in what only seemed to be first game jitters for each squad.

Casey County drew first blood with a basket to take an early 2-0 lead.

Abby Young made the first basket for the Lady Dawgs at the 3:45 mark, but a free throw by Casey County put the Lady Rebels up by one. Casey County extended its lead to four points on a three point play at the 3:13 mark, 6-2.

Braylee Mann stole the ball and drove the length of the floor for a layup to cut the lead to two points at the 2:22 point in the first quarter, 6-4.

Casey scored at the two minute mark and pushed its lead to four points, 8-4 and with both teams starting to loosen up a little, the Lady Dawgs trailed by the same score at the end of the first.

During the second quarter, shots weren’t falling for the Lady Dawgs. Mann did hit two free throws to cut the lead to three, 9-6, but a basket by Casey County extended the lead to five, 11-6, with 5:17 on the clock.

Alexis Roberts hit a three pointer at the 4:54 mark to cut the lead to two points, 11-9, but an 11-0 run by Casey County saw the Lady Rebels with a 22-9 advantage with under two minutes remaining in the half.

During the third quarter it was all Casey County as the Lady Dawgs failed to put any points on the board during the eight minute period.

Casey County put up 23 in the period to take a 47-13 lead over the Lady Dawgs.

The final quarter wasn’t much better for Clinton County as the Lady Dawgs only scored five points in the period. As the buzzer sounded at the end of the game, Clinton County was handed its first loss of the season by a final score of 57-18.
