Lady Dawgs dropped three games last week

The Lady Dawgs dropped three games this week, moving the team to 0-5 on the year.

Clinton County’s first game came Tuesday night on the road against Monroe County, 67-31, Friday night against district opponent Metcalfe County, 78-41, and Saturday night against Greenwood, 57-49.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Greenwood Saturday afternoon at The Castle with a 0-4 record going into the ballgame.

Clinton County hit the first basket of the game from Braylee Mann on a free throw, but Greenwood answered with a three pointer to take an early 3-1 lead.

Rylee Stockton hit a free throw to cut the lead to one point, but once again Greenwood answered with a free throw of its own to extend the lead to two points, 4-2, with 5:23 on the clock.

At the 5:15 mark, after almost a year on the sidelines with a knee injury, Joelie Hicks checked in to the game.

Greenwood scored on the next possession, 6-2, but a basket by Alexis Roberts put the Lady Dawgs back to within two points, 6-4. Roberts tied the game at six on a field goal and a free throw by Abby Young gave the Lady Dawgs a one point lead, 7-6, with 2:19 on the clock.

Greenwood tied the game at seven before a three pointer by Young gave Clinton County a three point lead, 10-7.

The Lady Gators finished the quarter with a three pointer to tie the score at 10 at the end of the period.

During the second quarter, Young hit her second three pointer to give Clinton County the edge, 13-10.

Greenwood fought back and took the lead on four made free throws, and a field goal, 16-13.

Alexis Roberts hit a free throw to cut the lead to one point, but a field goal by Greenwood at the 4:50 mark put the Lady Gators up by four points, 18-14.

Clinton County’s Roberts and Stockton tied the score on a field goal and two free throw respectively with more than four minutes remaining in the half.

Greenwood would then move up by four points on back-to-back field goals, 22-18.

Clinton County fought back and continued to work hard on offense and defense and posted a 6-0 run to move up by two points with less than two minutes remaining in the half, 24-22.

The Lady Gators hit the final two field goals of the half to take a two point lead at halftime, 26-24.

Clinton County fell behind early in the third quarter as Greenwood went on a 6-0 run to take an eight point lead, 32-24.

The Lady Dawgs then started clawing back scoring 11 unanswered points on the Lady Gators to take a one point lead, 35-34, with 2:41 on the clock.

Greenwood hit a three pointer to regain the lead, 37-35.

Roberts hit one of two from the line for a 38-37 lead with 1:08 on the clock. Gabby Beaty hit one from the foul line for a two point lead, 39-37, followed by a three pointer by Young, 42-37.

Greenwood hit the final basket of the third quarter to cut the lead to three points, 42-39.

The final quarter saw Clinton County go cold on offense and Greenwood hit a hot streak, putting up 18 unanswered points on the Lady Dawgs.

Clinton County’s first basket of the fourth quarter came at the 2:15 mark, when Roberts hit a three pointer to cut the lead to 10 points.

The Lady Dawgs would only score two points in the remainder of the quarter when Mann hit a field goal with 1:20 on the clock.

Greenwood went home with the 59-47 win.

Metcalfe County 78

The Lady Dawgs traveled to Metcalfe County on Friday night for the team’s second game of the week. The Lady Dawgs moved to 0-4 on the year and 0-1 in district play with the 78-41 loss.

Metcalfe County jumped out early in Friday’s game when the Lady Hornets put up 10 points before Clinton County could score a basket.

It took almost four minutes before Mann would drop in a bucket for the Lady Dawgs, 10-2.

Metcalfe finished the quarter with a 7-4 run for a 17-6 lead on the Lady Dawgs after one.

The second quarter didn’t fair well for the Lady Dawgs either as Clinton County struggled on the floor.

By the time the second quarter was over, Clinton County found itself down by 21 points, 42-19.

Clinton County was never in Friday night’s game as Metcalfe County took control early. The Lady Dawgs were down by more than 35 points in the fourth quarter which prompted a continous clock for the remainder of the game.

The Lady Dawgs lost the contest by a final score of 78-41.

The first game of the week for the Lady Dawgs came Tuesday night against former 16th District opponent Monroe County.

The Lady Falcons opened up the game with a quick 4-0 lead which prompted a timeout by Head Coach Darrell Thompson in order to settle the nerves of the Lady Dawgs.

Upon coming out of the timeout, Clinton County’s Rylee Stockton made a field goal to cut the lead to two points, 4-2, but an 11-2 run to finish out the quarter saw Clinton County down, 15-4, after one.

Monroe County continued to put points on the board at the start of the second quarter and held the Lady Dawgs scoreless for the first two minutes, 18-6.

The Lady Dawgs would only score three more points for the remainder of the half for a halftime score of 22-9.

Gabby Beaty opened up the second half with a three pointer to close the gap to 10 points, 22-12, but Monroe County put together an 11-3 run to lead, 33-15.

Clinton County finished the quarter down by 18 points, 39-21.

During the final quarter, Clinton County managed to put 10 points on the board, but the team’s effort was overpowered by the Lady Falcons. Monroe County posted 28 points for a 67-31 win over the Lady Dawgs.

Clinton County hosted Cumberland County Tuesday for Pink Out night, too late for press deadline, and will travel to Russell County on Friday to wrap up the first round regular season district play.
