Lady Dawgs grab second win of the season against McCreary

The Clinton County Lady Dawgs traveled to McCreary County to play in the Arby’s Holiday Classic.

For the week, Clinton County went 1-4, defeating the host, McCreary Central on Saturday, December 23.

Clinton County is 2-10 on the year.

The Lady Dawgs went up against Barbourville in the first game of the Arby’s Holiday Classic on Wednesday in what turned out to be a game down to the wire.

In the first quarter, Clinton County played strong and kept fighting during the period. Clinton County scored 15 points in the first period, compared to Barbourville 18, to trail by three at the end of the first.

The second quarter saw much of the same from both teams, however, scoring slowed way down for both squads. Barbourville did out score Clinton County by one during the period, to put the Lady Dawgs behind by four at the half, 28-24.

During the third quarter, Clinton County started to put the ball in the basket. The Lady Dawgs outscored Barbourville, 16-10 and took a two point lead at the end of three, 40-38.

The final quarter was back and forth for both teams. The Lady Dawgs put up a respectable 14 points during the quarter, but Clinton County couldn’t keep Barbourville from scoring on the defensive end of the floor. Barbourville put up 18 points in the final quarter to pull ahead and get the two point win, 56-54.

Clinton County lost the second game of the Arby’s Holiday Classic on Thursday against Bell County.

By the end of the first quarter, Clinton County seemed to be in contention for the win as both teams were tied at 13 by the end of the first eight minutes.

Bell County gained control of the game by the end of the second quarter and led by three points at halftime, 28-25.

The second half was a different story as Bell County put up 17 points in both the third and fourth quarters, compared to six and nine for the Lady Bulldogs.

Clinton County lost the game, 62-40.

Wayne County 59

The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs went up against Wayne County on Friday of the Arby’s Holiday Classic.

After the first quarter of play was over, Clinton County founded themselves down only four points, 12-8.

By the time halftime rolled around, Wayne County had already taken control of the game and led the Lady Dawgs, 28-17.

Wayne County continued to add points to the board in the third quarter as the Lady Cardinals outscored the Lady Dawgs, 20-13, bringing the third quarter score in favor of Wayne County, 48-30.

The Lady Dawgs only scored five points in the fourth quarter and couldn’t dig themselves out of the hole. Wayne County won the game, 59-35.

McCreary Central 44

The Lady Dawgs picked up one win in the Arby’s Holiday Classic against host McCreary Central.

After the first quarter, Clinton County controlled the game by putting up 18 points compared to McCreary Central’s 11.

During the second quarter, Clinton County posted 13 points and outscored the Lady Raider’s by one for a 31-23 halftime lead.

McCreary Central fought back during the third quarter and posted 15 points, outscoring Clinton County by three.

The final quarter saw Clinton County regain control and post 11 fourth quarter points while holding McCreary Central to only six points.

Clinton County picked up its second win of the season, 54-44.

Clinton County will be home during the second half of the holiday stretch for the Best of the Lakes Tournament held at Lindle Castle Gymnasium.
