Saving a

hummingbird

by Reba Jones

Last Thursday evening I had an unusual experience. I was sitting at my computer reading the latest current events when I heard something hit the front storm door.

I looked out the door and saw a tiny female hummingbird lying upside down on the porch. I hurriedly picked it up before my cat found it.

As it lay lifeless in my hand, my thoughts were “How do you do CPR on tiny bird.” She finally opened her eyes and I began to massage her tiny chest.

She began to sit up and cling to my finger with her tiny feet. I decided at that moment to take her out back and dip her beak in the hummingbird feeder. Upon doing so her tiny wings began to flutter and I knew she was ready to fly away.

Before I let her take her flight to freedom I decided to take a picture of her with my cell phone. I knew no one would probably believe my story so I had to have proof.

It’s not every day that you get to hold a hummingbird and save it’s life.
