A Russell County man was arrested a week ago Tuesday night on charges he allegedly had sexual contact with a minor, according to Deputy Nick Bertram with the Russell County Sheriff’s Department.

Christopher Conover, 36, of Sano Road, was arrested around 11 p.m. Tuesday on warrants charging him with two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, which are class D felonies.

Bertram said Conover is accused of having sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl and was tipped off when the girl opened up to her mother about the alleged events, which took place over a year’s time, and she contacted the authorities.

Conover was taken into custody by Deputy Bertram and Deputy Jason Warinner and lodged in Russell County Detention Center.

Bertram said the investigation continues and additional charges may be forthcoming.
