A request for a welfare check resulted in two people being arrested and charged with child neglect.
On Friday, July 29, Detective Greg Cooper and Investigator Steve Hritz with the Overton County Sheriff’s Department received numerous complaints at the residence of 350 June Chapel Road was not fit for children, according to the department.
Upon arrival at the scene, numerous bags of trash were found outside. Hritz stated the trash appeared to have been there for a while.
Upon inspection of the house, it was reportedly found unsanitary, including numerous boxes of food lying around with flies inside. Dishes were also reportedly piled up and hadn’t been cleaned. The yard was also reported to be overgrown, and food had been left out on the table for an extended period and flies were inside.
Allen Wayne Harness and Christy Harness were both arrested and charged with child neglect. Assisting the sheriff’s department at the scene were the Department of Children’s Services.
