Twin Lakes members enjoy quarterly meeting, speaker

The Twin Lakes Cattle Association of Clinton County held its quarterly meeting on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. The meeting was held at the First United Methodist Church in Albany with 48 members and several guests in attendance.

Clinton County FFA members assisted with serving the food.

The meeting kicked off with a wonderful beef meal prepared by the cooking team of Paul Conner and Carl Sasser. The meal consisted of ribeye steak, baked potatoes, corn-on-the-cob, Steve’s Best cabbage casserole, green beans, and rolls. The steaks were courtesy of A&S Livestock and Feed (Mark Antle), of Jamestown, Kentucky. Linda Bell made the spectacularly decorated cakes for dessert.

John Burbank, CEO of Seedstock Plus in St. Catherine Missouri was the guest speaker for the evening. Burbank gave an energetic and enlightening talk to the audience about the advantages of crossbreeding. Seedstock Plus normally sells about 1,000 bulls a year across the country. Its main breed emphasis is on Gelbvieh, Balancers, and Angus.

Steve Peddicord, president, discussed with the membership the benefits of using the A & S dead animal removal service for deceased livestock. He explained the process needed to secure pick-up at the farm and the steps needed to request cost-share reimbursement through the Clinton County Soil Conservation district.

Jim Delk, vice-president gave a report on the 2018 KCA convention held in Lexington, Dr. Charles Daily gave the treasurer’s report and local vet update, and Colby Guffey, UK Extension Ag. Agent updated the group about new vitamin A requirement changes for beef cattle.

The next quarterly meeting of the Twin Lakes Association is scheduled for April 24.

Till next time, keep putting on the pounds!
