Clinton ends season in regional opener, 78-52

The Clinton County Bulldogs ran into the defending state champions, Bowling Green High School, last Wednesday night in the first round of the regional tournament held at WKU’s Diddle Arena.

Clinton County opened up the regional tournament with the first game of the week and started off a little on the slow side trailing 6-0 in the first two minutes of the game.

The Dawgs fought back as Jackson Harlan made a shot at the 6:11 mark, 6-2, followed by a basket by Bowling Green to extend the lead back to six points, 8-2.

Seth Stockton made a layup on the Dawg’s next possession to cut the lead to four points, followed by three free throws by Stockton to get to within one, 8-7.

Clinton County took the lead, 9-8, when Harlan made a jumper in the lane. Bowling Green regained the lead on the next possession with a basket, 10-9, but Clinton County’s Stockton hit a field goal to give Clinton County back the lead, 11-10, with 3:08 on the clock.

The Dawgs went on a dry spell offensively that saw Bowling Green put together a 5-0 run.

Harlan finished the quarter by hitting two free throws to trail by two at the end of the first quarter, 15-13.

Clinton County’s game seemed to fall off track as the second quarter got underway.

Bowling Green continued to add points to the board during the second quarter, maintaining a lead throughout the remainder of the half.

The Dawgs scored only nine points in the second quarter as Bowling Green put up 19. By halftime, Clinton County trailed by 34-22.

The second half didn’t fare much better for the Dawgs as Bowling Green outscored Clinton County 25-13 in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the hole was much too deep for the Dawgs to climb out of as Bowling Green claimed the win, 78-52.

The Dawgs finished the season with a record of 18-13. During the regional game, the Dawgs shot 18 of 43 from the floor for 41.9 percent, including two of 13 from the three point line for 15.4 percent. From the foul line, the Dawgs hit 14 of 20 for 70 percent.

Clinton County was outrebounded 30-23 and committed 19 turnovers compared to Bowling Green’s 13.

The Dawgs graduate three seniors from this year’s team, including Ely Baker, Michael Futon and Jaxon Hadley.

Senior Michael Fulton put up a three pointer during the second half against Bowling Green Wednesday. Clinton County finished the season with an 18-13 record.

Jackson Harlan went up for a jumper during the first half against Bowling Green in the opening round of the 4th Region Tournament. Harlan finished with 23 points on the night, but the Dawgs lost the contest, 78-52.
