Preliminary figures of student attendance through the first 10-day period of the 2011-12 school year indicate that overall enrollment across the district in the five schools–which includes the Early Childhood Center and Foothills Academy, has increased over the 2010-11 year.

According to statistics released from the office of the Director of Pupil Personnel, enrollment appears to have topped the 1,800 student range at all schools total, standing at 1,808 enrolled compared to 1,776 attending school in the Clinton County Schools the same period a year ago.

The time frame ranged from the first day of school August 9 through last Monday, August 22.

As far as a break down by school, the Clinton County Middle School has shown the largest increase in the number of students enrolled at 532. That compares with 510 students at that facility for grades five through eight last year.

Albany Elementary School’s enrollment for the same time period from the current year compared to last year was virtually unchanged, with a decrease of only one student–524 compared to 525 enrolled a year ago.

Students at the ECC, which reflects kindergarten and pre-school age children, is up slightly this year from 227 students that were enrolled last year compared to 233 as of last Monday.

There is also a slight enrollment increase thus far at the high school as well, with 467 students being enrolled through the early part of the school term, up five students from the 462 enrolled at that facility the same time last year.

Even Foothills Academy, which has seen a trend of fewer youth at that facility over the recent years, was up by three students, from 49 last year to 52 this year.

Although it is much too early to tell about a trend for student attendance, which is always an important issue for any school district, through the first ten days of classes, overall attendance districtwide was 95.93 percent, a slight decrease from the 96.72 percent recorded through the first 10 days a year ago.

Through the first few days, attendance was down about 1.2 percent at AES; down 2.7 at the ECC; up just over a tenth of a percent at the high school and down six tenths of a percent at the middle school, compared to the same period a year ago.
