Law enforcement and other officials are investigating the death of a Clinton County Jail inmate that occurred this past weekend.
According to a brief release issued Saturday, “The Kentucky State Police Post 15–Columbia is investigating a death that occurred at the Clinton County Jail.” The news release said they (KSP) received a report from the Clinton County Coroner at approximately 8 a.m. Saturday, August 27 in regards to the death of Christina York, age 25, of Albany. The victim was found unresponsive at the jail and subsequently transported to Clinton County Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
The news release said at this point, no foul play was suspected.
An autopsy and toxicology was performed at the State Medical Examiner’s office on Sunday, August 28.
Few details could be obtained about the incident as of press time Tuesday morning as the investigation continued.
Coroner Steve Talbott said that “when they (jail officials) discovered the victim, they took her to the hospital. That’s where I pronounced her (deceased).” He further stated the autopsy and toxicology results wouldn’t be complete for two or three weeks.
Clinton County Jailer Gene Ferrill couldn’t be reached for comment Monday morning. Instead, jail employees directed the NEWS to Pat Crawley, who represents the Kentucky Jailers Association. Crawley said they were waiting on the Kentucky State Police to finalize their investigation and had no further comment on the matter.
There were also no details on the charges against the deceased that led to her being incarcerated at the time of her death.
Detective James Richard is continuing the investigation. He was assisted by the Clinton County Coroner and Clinton County EMS.
