A family cookout at the home of Jimmy and Ashley Bewley, Red Hill-Sugar Grove Road, Tompkinsville, quickly turned tragic, when a GMC Sierra driven by Julie A. Stephens, 31, of Tompkinsville, crashed through the wall of their mobile home.

According to Amy Webb, who was visiting the home, her brother Jimmy Bewley was holding her eight week-old boy, Braxton Khayne Webb, when the truck came crashing through the wall. Bewley’s wife, Ashley (who is 22 weeks pregnant) and Braxton were both life-flighted from the scene for treatment of their injuries. According to Sheriff Tyler Shaw, Bewley has since been released and Braxton’s injuries are “life threatening” but stable at the present time.

Jimmy Bewley and Tommy Webb were both transported by ambulance to the Monroe County Medical Center where they were treated and released. Amy Webb received back injuries but did not seek treatment at that time and the Bewley’s two young daughters–Sadie and Sophie–were not injured.

According to Shaw, witnesses reported seeing Stephen’s truck and an older dark Ford truck being driven by James Keith Geralds, 50, at 267 Sewell Road, Tompkinsville, driving at high rates of speed throughout the community during the evening giving the appearance they were fighting. Shaw noted that at the time of the accident, Stephen’s truck left the roadway after apparently failing to negotiate a curve. The truck traveled 202 feet from the roadway before striking the trailer. Shaw added that there was no evidence her brakes had been applied before hitting the home.

Stephens and Geralds were both taken to Monroe County Jail, and she was later transferred to Allen County Detention facing charges of DUI first degree with aggravator, criminal mischief first degree and seven counts of wanton endangerment. Geralds faces charges of DUI third degree with aggravator, assault in the third degree on a police officer and resisting arrest.
