School year starts, fall sports time is here

The sighting this week of those big, yellow school buses mean only one thing – with the start of another school year officially here, we are beginning the slow transition from no activities on the local sports scene – to a full plate with the start of fall sports seasons at CCHS.

As I mentioned in these spaces last week, the gridiron season will see our Bulldogs heading for Fort Knox next week for the August 17 season opener against the Eagles.

Local fans are in for a pre-season treat before that first game so mark your calendars – or type it in on your phone reminder apps if that’s the case – Meet the Bulldogs will be held next Thursday, August 16.

According to “Mrs. Coach”, Trisha Miller, the event is slated to get underway on Bulldog Field at the CCHS Stadium.

Meet the Bulldogs is being staged again as a pre-season “tailgating event” with a host of activities designed to get fans ready for the season loaded with plenty of information about who we will be watching and cheering for this season

Bring your chairs and come out to enjoy the player introductions as well as introductions of our cheerleaders and the CCHS Band.

Meet the Bulldogs gets underway at 6:00 p.m. and if tailgating isn’t in your plans, there will be plenty of concessions available, as well as 2018 t-shirts and programs.

Additional entertainment will see some carnival type activies such as face painting and even a dunking booth.

The seniors will end the night before they head off to Fort Knox the next day by lighting the traditional pre-season bonfire.

Sounds like a great way to get the 2018 gridiron campaign kicked off in great fashion.

In the meantime – let’s take it outside for a few months!
