A local man faces murder by use of a motor vehicle and other charges in relation to a fatal traffic accident that occurred in Clinton County on April 17 of this year.

A Clinton County Grand Jury has previously returned a “sealed” indictment against Ira Boles “Bo” Dyer, III, age 33, of Albany. The indictment remained sealed until the whereabouts of the defendant were known and official documents could be served on the charges.

The indictments, in which KSP Detective Andy Olson presented evidence in the case, was returned on August 15.

The indictments allege that on or about April 17, the defendant “wantonly engaged in conduct which caused the death of Ina Edwards, when he drove a motor vehicle and caused a collision while under the influence of controlled substances.”

Dyer was also charged with three counts of first degree wanton endangerment by placing three passengers in the two vehicles–including two minor children–in immediate danger of death or physical injury and also four counts of persistent felony offender-second degree, having committed the offenses after having been stood convicted of a prior felony offense within the last five-year period.

The fatal collision occurred on Sunday morning, April 17 at approximately 9:50 a.m. on U.S. 127, three miles north of Albany near Mountain View Nursery and claimed the live of Edwards, age 79, of Albany. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Clinton County Coroner Steve Talbott.

According to the accident report filed by Kentucky State Police at the time, the victim was traveling in a 1994 Plymouth that was struck by a 1999 Buick, operated by Dyer. The Dyer vehicle, which was southbound, had crossed the center line and struck the Edwards vehicle.

Edwards had one passenger in her vehicle, Kenneth Bilbrey, of Albany, who was treated and released at Clinton County Hospital.

Dyer had two passengers in his vehicle, Tyler Wright, age 8 and Ira Craig Dyer, age 7, both of Albany. Ira Boles Dyer and Wright were both airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital, while Ira Craig Dyer was treated and released.

The defendant is scheduled to appear for arraignment in Clinton Circuit Court on Monday, September 19.

(Editor’s Note: An indictment is a statement of probable cause to believe an offense has been committed and further court proceedings are warranted. Those individuals named in an indictment are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.)
