Golf season heading to the final stretch
While we call it a “fall sport” now, the high school golf season actually begins and ends during the summer months, with the post-season play being the only part that could actually run into the fall – as is the case this year.
This week marks the final full week of regular season play for our Golf Dawgs and Lady Golf Dawgs, and next week – still in summer – they finish out the final portion of regular season matches, then move into the District Tournament.
Both squads are slated to finish the regular season matches with a Monday trip to Tompkinsville’s Hidden Hills Country Club to face Monroe County, then it’s directly – as in the next day – into post season matches.
Clinton County will be co-hosting the District Tournament this year at Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park next Tuesday, September 20.
Then, the action finally moves into the “fall” season (autumn officially arrives on Friday, September 23), when both squads head into the regional tournament, with the boys playing at the Kenny Perry Course in Franklin on Monday, September 26, while the girls head to Bowling Green’s Indian Hills Country Club the next day Tuesday, September 27.
Hopefully, the seasons won’t end then for either team, as the best case scenario would see our players – either as teams or individuals as is allowed in golf, advancing to the KHSAA State Tournament in October.
Our girls have enjoyed a fairly successful season thus far, and the boys have more or less shined on the links from day one. I’ve spent several days this summer walking on the course covering both squads, and from a first-hand witness perspective it’s fair to say the future of our golf programs at C.C.H.S. look very, very stable.
Best of luck to both for continued success as we close out this 2011 season.
Put on pink for Diggin’ for a Cure
Our C.C.H.S. Volley Dawgs will be sponsoring the squad’s second annual cancer awareness night this week, Thursday, September 15, and they are urging everyone to come out to the match that night against Glasgow, wearing pink.
In addition to the match, several other activities are slated including a silent auction and games for young children, with proceeds being donated to the Relay for Life effort.
Cancer survivors attending are asked to sign in at the door when they arrive at the Lindle Castle Gymnasium, so they can be recognized. The recognition program will be in between the volleyball matches.
If Glasgow brings a Freshman team, play will get underway at 5:30 p.m., followed by the JV and then the Varsity matches. If Glasgow doesn’t bring a freshmen team, the JV will start at 5:30 p.m.
Both the Lady Volley Dawgs as well as the Glasgow Scotties will be wearing pink uniforms for this special night of volleyball action.
