Wet, misty and rainy weather conditions Saturday morning may have put a damper on some of the activities, but the inpromtu “pick and grin” session that always takes place in the courthouse lawn, was simply moved indoors as the local and area musicians make the courthouse hall their stage. The musicians, as well as the appreciative crowd enjoying the show, changed every few songs.
Ethan Smith used a slow but methodical method of eating hotdogs to unseat last year’s champion, Brett Gibson, in the Foothills Festival Hotdog eating contest. Smith, who would give each bunned hotdog a good, tight squeeze before the chewing began, finished a dozen dogs in the 10 minute time limit to claim the 2018 title.
What an ‘Experience’ . . .
Two groups of Foothills fans had special seating locations for the two largest events during last week’s Foothills Festival after placing the winning bids for the Clinton County Community Foundation’s All For Benny Experience during Friday night’s Exile concert and Saturday’s Lip Sync.
The winning bids for each All for Benny Gala auction event resulted in special seating arrangements, plush chairs and even a S’mores making kit. Above, Patti Cross, shown with her husband Al Cross made the winning Experience bid for the Exile concert Friday. Also seated with the Crosses are her niece, Lora Brewington and husband, Matt.
On Saturday, Sarah Wilson-Browning’s winning bid for the Lip Sync Experience provided her with front row seating, and the complete S’mores kit experience, Below, Sarah is shown in the Experience sitting with her husband, Chris Browning, and friend Jessica Murphy.
“Best money I ever spent,” Sarah told NEWS Editor Al Gibson Saturday afternoon.
One of the most crowded spots throughout the entire Foothills weekend is always the food court area, where fans gather to not only search out something different than their daily food fare, but to visit with family and friends as well.
Accomplishing two goals with one setting, students from the Clinton County Area Technology Center’s Health Careers classes were on hand Saturday morning near Dyer Drug to give free health screenings to Foothills fans. The free health checks also gave the students the chance to gain hands-on experience with live patients in the field they have chosen to pursue.
