The Clinton County Bulldogs were out matched Friday night as Casey County defeated Clinton County 55-6, and the Bulldogs move to 0-4 on the year.

Head Coach Jamie Miller said his team just wasn’t strong enough to match up with the Rebels.

“They physically dominated us,” Miller said. “It goes back to people who work out in the weight room. We just haven’t done that. We’ve got to have better attendance in the weight room so we can compete with guys who devote their entire year to football. We have a handful of guys who are very dedicated in the weight room … you have to be able to physically match up with them.”

Basically, Miller said being in a small school, sports have to share their athletes. When his football team is training in the off season, most of his team is playing other sports.

“We have half of our guys who play baseball and basketball so they miss out all spring,” Miller said. “The little bit of time they get in the weight room, it doesn’t help a whole lot. We have started lifting during the season this year.”

Miller is not saying anything against his players playing multiple sports, he just wishes he could get his team more time in the weight room.

“I’m all for that. I think a kid in high school should play every sport they want to play, but unfortunately for football, you have to be able to physically match up,” Miller said. “More so than in basketball and baseball, you have to physically have strength and size.”

Clinton County will have a bit of an away stretch with the next four games being on the road. The Bulldogs will finish up the season with two home games on October 21 and 28 against Green County and Eminence respectively.

“We don’t come back home until October 21,” Miller said. “We will finish the season with two home games and we are already in the playoffs. We haven’t started the conference schedule yet and that will determine who we play and where we play as the conference unfolds.”

Friday night Clinton County will travel to Caverna to take on the Colonels with a kick off set for 7 p.m.

“We’ve got to improve,” Miller said. “We have to take care of the football. We should match up pretty well with Caverna. They are not any bigger than we are. Speed wise, they have a little bit of speed and we have a little bit of speed. Somebody is going to get their first win of the season. Friday night somebody is going to capture that elusive first win. I hope it’s us. We need to go out and perform and come away with the victory.”
