And just like that – we’re in full swing

Didn’t take long for this 2018-19 basketball season to get in full swing and for things to get busy for fans, players and coaching staffs.

Last week both our Lady Dawgs and Bulldogs hit the floor three times each, with the Dawgs going 2-1 with wins over Metcalfe (the most important), Monroe and losing to Greenwood.

The Lady Dawgs were 1-2, picking up the first win of the season on the road against Monroe, and chalking up losses against Metcalfe and Greenwood.

This week’s schedule is about as busy, with the Bulldogs hitting the hardwood twice while the Lady Dawgs will lace them up three times.

Both teams face the remaining two – of three – 16th District opponents this week, Cumberland County on Tuesday night in Burkesville and Russell County at the Castle this Friday night. That will conclude round one of district play for Clinton County.

The Lady Bulldogs head to Adair County on Saturday for an afternoon game against the Lady Indians with a 3:00 p.m. J.V. tip.

Holiday tournament time is upon us.

Late December means the official calendar start of winter, Christmas giving, Christmas gatherings, Christmas meals, and of course, Christmas basketball tournaments.

At least my dislike for the latter has been softened in recent years with the experience of knowing that Clinton County is hosting a pair of tournaments – one pre-Christmas and one post-Christmas, meaning travel time for this fan/reporter/public address announcer, is cut to a nil.

Also making the holiday tournament pill much easier to swallow is the fact that since we began both the boys’ Twin Lakes Holiday Classic and the girls’ Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic, Clinton County is now well known as playing the part of a top shelf holiday tournament host on both accounts.

Feeling a little pride in what our local schools are putting out in terms of reputations of being a great host, makes it much more fun.

All of that said, the first of our holiday tournaments gets underway next Thursday night, December 20, and runs through Saturday afternoon. The Best of the Lakes will follow with girls’ action December 27 through December 29, again Thursday through Saturday.

On the flip sides of each teams, the girls will be playing in the Arby’s Holiday Classic at McCreary Central December 20-22, while the boys will be traveling to lovely Gatlinburg for the King of the Smokies Classic December 27-29.

Pink-out this Friday night

Clinton County fans are reminded to deck out in pink this Friday night for the Clinton County – Russell County double-header at the Castle.

The annual Pink-Out night is in support of the American Cancer Society and its research to battle cancer.

Special activities, fund-raisers and recognitions will be held.
