A Wayne County man has been arrested on several felony charges after the sheriff’s department investigated a sexual assault complaint.

Justin Hunley, of Monticello, has been charged with first degree sodomy, first degree unlawful imprisonment, second degree assault and theft by unlawful taking.

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron, deputies Brent Rose and Jerry Coffey responded to the complaint on Thursday, January 3, where a female victim was allegedly held against her will for two days on Furnace Mountain Road in Wayne County.

Their investigation revealed that the victim was lured to the location to have her clean a residence. While being held, the victim reported that she was assaulted, sodomized and a cell phone had been taken from her.

After escaping, the victim received treatment for her injuries at the Wayne County Hospital.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence, where items of evidence were recovered. DNA samples were taken from both the victim and the accused which will be sent to the Kentucky State Police Laboratory in Frankfort for analysis, along with other evidence obtained through the search warrant.

Rose and Coffey were assisted in obtaining the search warrant and the arrest warrant by Wayne County Attorney Tom Simmons.

Rose served the arrest warrant on Hunley on January 5. Hunley was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center and the investigation is continuing.

A teenager charged with murder in connection with the August 2017 shooting death of a local man will serve 10 years in prison after entering a plea agreement to an amended charge of second degree manslaughter.

Dylan Mason appeared in Wayne Circuit Court on Wednesday, January 2 and pled guilty to the amended charge of manslaughter.

He also entered a guilty plea to an amended charge of robbery second degree and tampering with physical evidence.

Mason was represented by defense attorney George Bertram.

Under the plea agreement, the Commonwealth recommended a sentence of 10 years each on the manslaughter and robbery charge.

A sentence of five years was recommended on the charge of tampering with physical evidence.

All sentences will run concurrent for a total of 10 years in prison, according to court documents.

Mason was charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Matthew Young, 20. Young suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest and died at his residence on Mercer Drive.

Mason, who was 16 at the time of the incident, was originally charged in the case as a juvenile.

An indictment that was returned against him in October 2017 noted that Mason would be tried as an adult, and all court records against him became part of public record.

Mason is now 18, according to court information. He remains lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

Formal sentencing for Mason has been set for February 5 in Wayne Circuit Court.

A new charge is pending against Mason at this time. He has been charged with second degree assault in connection with an altercation that occurred at the Wayne County Detention Center on Monday, December 31.

Two men have been arrested in connection with a rash of burglaries that have occurred in Monticello and Wayne County, according to Sheriff Tim Catron.

John M. Haas, and Ricky T. Hidgon, both of Monticello, were arrested Tuesday, January 1 and charged with receiving stolen property over $10,000.

The men were arrested following the execution of a search warrant at an apartment on Ridgewood Avenue.

The search warrant was issued after deputies Brad Tucker and James Barnett responded to a burglary complaint on West KY 92.

During their investigation, they learned the victim had been contacted by a local pawn shop owner and informed that one of the stolen items from their residence had been offered for sale to him.

Tucker, Barnett and Deputy Travis Bell executed the search warrant and recovered approximately 50 items that had been stolen in several burglary cases.

They also recovered several stolen identification cards, counterfeit currency, a small amount of drugs and information regarding the location of other stolen items.

Haas and Hidgon were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

Tucker said the investigation is continuing and he expects to make more arrests in the future.
