Lady Dawgs fall out of All ‘A’ regional

The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs played two district games last week to wrap up regular season district play in the 16th District.

The Lady Dawgs moved to 2-4 in district play with the other three teams with games on the schedule before final seeds are in place for the district tournament.

So far, Russell County holds a 4-0 record in district play while Cumberland County is 0-4.

Metcalfe County holds on to a 3-1 record in district play with its only loss coming at the hands of Russell County. Metcalfe County and Russell County still have yet to play the final game of its series.

As it looks right now, Clinton County will be the number three seed in the district tournament, if no upsets take place in the next couple of weeks.

On Monday night, Clinton County traveled to Metcalfe County to play in the first round of the All “A” Classic Regional Tournament.

The Lady Dawgs didn’t start off very well Monday night in the opening round of the All “A” Classic Regional Tournaament against Metcalfe County.

Clinton County fell behind early as the Lady Hornets started the game with an 8-0 lead.

Clinton County’s Braylee Mann and Alexis Roberts scored two baskets after Rylee Stockton hit one of two from the foul line, to cut the lead to three points, 8-5.

Metcalfe County then hit a three pointer to extend the lead, 11-5, but a field goal by Mann and a free throw by Landree Moons cut the lead to three points with a minute remaining in the period.

Metcalfe County finished the quarter with a three pointer to lead after one, 14-8.

During the second quarter, Clinton County started to show life, however, Metcalfe County continued to score at will.

The Lady Hornets scored the first basket of the second quarter to move up 16-8, but a field goal by Abbi Young and a three pointer by Roberts cut the lead to three points with 5:36 on the clock, 16-13.

Metcalfe County finished the quarter with a 10-0 to lead by 13 at the half, 26-13.

The Lady Hornets continued that run into the second half by adding five more points to the board, 31-13.

Mann hit one of two from the line, followed by a field goal at the 4:36 mark, 31-16, but a 7-2 run by Metcalfe County put the Lady Hornets up by 20 points with more than two minutes on the clock, 38-18.

Clinton County finished the quarter on an 8-4 run to trail by 16 at the end of the third quarter, 42-26.

During the final quarter, Clinton County began to chip away at what was once a 20 point lead down to 10 points at the 1:18 mark, but as the clock counted down, time ran out for Clinton County to get back in the game.

The Lady Hornets defeated the Lady Dawgs by a final score of, 56-41.

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Russell County Friday night to take on the Lady Lakers.

Clinton County got off to a rocky start in the first quarter as no field goals were made.

Braylee Mann made one free throw and Landree Moons hit two for all of Clinton County’s first quarter points.

Russell County put up 13 for the quarter to lead by 10 points, 13-3.

During the second quarter, Clinton County stepped up and started scoring.

Mann went off for nine points in the second quarter, followed by Rylee Stockton with two three pointers and a three pointer by Abbi Young for 18 total second quarter points.

Russell County scored only 11 and at the half, the Lady Dawgs had cut the lead to three points, 24-21.

Russell County came out in the second half and got back into a rhythm and put up 17 third quarter points.

The Lady Dawgs only posted 10 points with Moons having four, Mann had two, Stockton scored a basket as well as Alexis Roberts.

At the end of three quarters, Clinton County trailed 41-31.

During the final quarter, Russell County outscored Clinton County 21-14 to seal the deal and hand Clinton County the 62-45 loss.

Cumberland Co. 33

Last week, Clinton County hosted Cumberland County for the second of two meetings between the two teams.

Cumberland County scored first in the game, but Clinton County answered with an 8-0 run and finished the quarter with a 3-2 run to lead 11-5 after the first quarter.

The second quarter went much the same as Clinton County continuted to hold the Lady Panthers on defense.

The Lady Dawgs put up nine points in the second quarter to Cumberland County’s five to lead at the half, 21-10.

As the third quarter rolled around, Clinton County continued to control the pace of the game, outscoring Cumberland County 13-11 and extending its lead to 34-21.

Cumberland County made a small run in the final quarter, but Clinton County had already secured a big enough lead to maintain control of the game and pick up the win, 43-33.

At one point, Cumberland County cut the lead to eight points, but never got any closer.

Rylee Stockton towered over a Cumberland County player during the second half of last week’s district matchup. Clinton County won the game, 43-33. Stockton finished with 10 points.
