Albany City Council held its first meeting of 2019 last Tuesday, January 8 with all members present except councilman Tony Delk.

The meeting was a special call meeting in lieu of the regular meeting, which fell on New Year’s Day.

There were only two items of official business taken up during the meeting, including the appointment of four members to served on the Albany Housing Authority Board of Directors.

The council, by unanimous votes, appointed Leland Hicks, Danny Martin, Eddie Starnes and Gary Huddleston to service on the board.

The only other official item of business on the agenda that could be voted on was the approval of minutes from two previous meetings, the December regular meeting and a special call meeting which had been held later in the month.

The meeting was also the first for new Albany Mayor Lyle Pierce, as well as three new council members, Renee York, Gene Ferrill and Reed Sloan. Returning members Tonya Thrasher and Steve Lawson were also present for the brief meeting, which lasted a matter of minutes.

The council’s first regular meeting of the year is scheduled for Tuesday, February 5 at 5 p.m. at city hall and is open to the public
