Clinton County Superintendent Charlotte Nasief announced to the school board Thursday night, February 14, that she would be resigning effective June 30, 2019.

In her letter of resignation, she stated, she had arrived at her decision knowing that the school district is in an excellent position fiscally and academically, as well as its ability to serve the students through established community partnerships and resources.

“The seven years I have served as superintendent have been the most fulfilling of my career,” Nasief said. “I want to thank everyone, board members, administrators, teachers, and staff, who have supported me throughout my tenure here.”

The Clinton County News spent some time with the Superintendent Monday morning, and she reviewed her tenure as the top official in the county school system.

Nasief stated the decision to resign didn’t come easily, however, she felt the district was in a good place and she is looking forward to the next phase of her life.

“Ed and I were married three years ago and its difficult to live apart,” Nasief said. “During the last three years, there have been some significant events happen in my life, like the death of my father, and we (she and her husban) decided we wanted to live together.”

Nasief said she plans on moving to Louisville, where her husband is from and is located now.

“I felt it was time,” Nasief said. “The district is in a good place. Especially with our contracts like with Cumberland Family Medical to provide nursing and counseling to all the students … that’s huge.”

One thing Nasief has been proud of being apart of is the close relationship with law enforcement in the county in order to provide another safety element to our schools system.

“Our contract with our city police department and with our new sheriff to provide another SRO (School Resource Officer), we are very blessed in that regard,” Nasief said. “I would have to say, in the seven years that I’ve been here, we have all worked along with our SROs, our police and sheriff’s department, to improve our safety procedures. We’ve had a lot of training, even through the state police.”

Nasief has been employed in the Clinton County School System for the past 26 years.

“It’s been a very fulfilling career,” Nasief said. “My job as superintendent I think was the most fulfilling of my career. It gave me the opportunity to work all throughout the district instead of just in one classroom. I’ve worked really close with a lot of people. We have some of the most dedicated employees in our district and they make out district run well everyday. It helps us do the most for our students and provide them with the best education we can.”

In the very beginning of Nasief’s career, she said she worked hard to rebuild the district financially and during the past seven years, she feels it’s where it needs to be.

“When I first started, we weren’t where we needed to be,” Nasief said. “During that time, we worked and managed over the years.”

Nasief said there have been many highlights in her career, but one of those is being able to provide students with free breakfast and lunch as well as free health care.

“We were able to provide free health care with the nurse practitioner in the school,” Nasief said. “Recently we now have free counseling and an added SRO that will make a huge impact. We are now financially stable enough to buy two new buses every year to add to our fleet and keep our buses running well.”

When Nasief started her position, she said preschool was going all day, which was better financially because bus routes were limited, but she had it changed to morning classes and afternoon classes in order to reach more kids at a young age.

“That gives you the ability to serve more students. I think we will see the impact of that because we will have more children being exposed to school at ages three and four,” Nasief said. “Educationally, that’s one of the biggest things we’ve done and that’s to improve early childhood.”

Another accomplishment Nasief is proud of is acquiring the new Clinton College and Career Center.

“When I first started as superintendent, that was one of the visions of the board … to build a new board office,” Nasief said. “The acquisition of this property actually gave us two buildings. It gave us a board office as well as an area technology center for the students. This center sees about 400 students a day, along with all the post-secondary students. This building is very well utilized. We are now offering a lot of dual credit courses. Some of the students are graduating with close to an associates degree.”

Nasief said one of the goals after acquiring the new building was to help students take college level courses without having to travel outside the county.

“We are working toward that with our relationship with Campbellsville University and Somerset Community College,” Nasief said. “We are working on lining out career pathways, so hopefully in the near future, when students are graduating, they can graduate with an associates degree.”

Nasief said there will be many things she will miss about being apart of the Clinton County School District, including interacting with the people and the staff.

She said knowing that you are helping students and you’ve have an impact on students’ education is a big thing.

“We have a real positive momentum going here and I wish the next person who takes this position the very best. They are coming into a good position with the district financially as well as educationally. They will have a fabulous staff to work with who is dedicated and hardworking,” Nasief said. “I think you have to make decisions that are best for the students and staff and stick to that decision.”

Nasief said she is very honored to have served in her position over the past seven years.

“Every accomplishment that has been made was made through a team effort,” Nasief said. “It’s been wonderful working with these people as a colleague and as a friend. I want to see our students rise to the top in the state with all their successes.”
