NONE

On Sunday morning, August 3, 1947, our party of 48 people left Webb Clark’s at 6 a.m. in his open bed cattle truck. He had made benches around the sides of the truck for those who were unable to stand. We were headed for Renfro Valley, Kentucky.

After we had passed Burnside, the bench on which we were riding broke down. So, we had to stop and fix that. We journeyed on to Mt. Vernon, and there took the wrong fork of the road for about a mile. We turned around and got on the right road and arrived in Renfro Valley at 11 a.m. There we saw all of the sights, such as the barn where the Saturday night barn dance is held, the race horses, the little red bud school hours and Renfro Lodge.

We left Renfro Valley at 3 p.m. We had just gone a mile or so when we ran out of gas. Some gas was secured from a passing truck. We then went on to the next filling station where we purchased gas and some souvenirs. We came back by way of Corbin. Through this stretch of country, we stopped at an animal show and saw some large snakes, honey bear, gorillas, wildcat, lion, apes, owls, foxes and coons. We then went on to London where we again had to turn back for about a mile. From there we came on through Somerset, Burnside, and Monticello and finally arrived at Webb Clark’s about 10 p.m. and we all walked to our respective homes. We enjoyed the trip but were very tired and I’ll just bet most everyone had a very red, sunburned face.

Those making this trip were: Mr. and Mrs. Webb Clark, Darwin, Barbara and Arnold, Mrs. Mamie Hicks and Peggy, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Clark and Juanita, Jimmy Agee, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Clark, Melvin DeRossett, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Guffey, Mary and Johnnie Guffey, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Rigney and Janice, Leonard and Lawrence Shelton, Clay Shelton, Mr. and Mrs. John Clark, Ora Mae and Oscar, Mrs. Louisa Clark and Mae Catron, Mrs. Tom Gibbons and Clay, Mrs. Henry Shelton, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Marcum, Evelyn, Howard and Randall, Mrs. Mary Branham, Bonnie, Charlie and Jessie, Mrs. Roscoe Shelton, Dorothy, John, Charles and Evelyn Shelton.
