Dawgs keep dancing in 4th

The Clinton County Bulldogs coasted through the 16th District Championship game last Thursday night picking up the 81-58 win over the Hornets of Metcalfe County and also progressed in the 4th Region Tournament Sunday by defeating Allen County/Scottsville in the opening round, 73-52.

The Bulldogs traveled to Diddle Arena at Western Kentucky University to take on Allen County/Scottsville in the opening round of the 4th Region Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

It took several minutes for Clinton County to take control of the game. Seth Stockton opened up the game with a three pointer, but Allen County scored a field goal to cut the lead to one point, 3-2.

Jackson Harlan then knocked down a three pointer to put the Dawgs up by four points with 6:25 on the clock, 6-2, but a 5-0 run by the Patriots saw Allen County/Scottsville take its only lead of the game, 7-6.

On the next possession, Harlan nailed a three pointer to regain the lead, 9-7, and he also made a field goal on the next possession to put the Dawgs up by four, 11-7.

Allen County/Scottsville went to the line and hit one of two to cut the lead, 11-8, but a field goal by Harlan put Clinton County up by five, 13-8, with 3:06 remaining in the first quarter.

The Patriots were able to add four points to the board to cut the lead to one point at the 2:04 mark, 13-12, but the Dawgs finished out the quarter with a 6-2 run on baskets by Stockton, Caleb Guffey and Harlan for a first quarter score of, 19-14.

The second quarter is when Clinton County really found its rhythm and opened up with a 9-3 run to take a 28-17 lead.

Stockton scored 11 of his game total in the second quarter and was an momentum changer for the Bulldogs. Harlan had to come out of the game for a brief period during the second quarter with blood on his knee, but Stockton stepped up and scored at will in order to gain a 19 point lead at the half, 41-22.

Clinton County continued to roll in the second half, but the speed of the game changed drastically for both teams.

The Bulldogs scored nine points in the first four minutes of the third quarter and put up eight in the final four minutes of the period, but held Allen County to only 14 points in the third to lead, 58-35 to start the fourth quarter.

Most of the fourth quarter was spent at the foul line for both teams, although Clinton County went to the line more often as Allen County was trying to play catchup.

At the 3:30 mark, Allen County finally cut the lead to below 20 points from the foul line, 66-47, but Clinton County was much too strong for any type of comeback by the Patriots to be made.

Clinton County’s bench came into factor in scoring late in the game as Lance Madison dropped in a basket, as well as Adam Hay with a free throw, and Parker Tallent put up a shot from the block with 1:02 on the clock.

Clinton County will travel back to Bowling Green on Friday to take on the Bowling Green Purples in the semi-finals of the 4th Region Tournament at 6 p.m.

Clinton County headed into last Thursday night’s game against Metcalfe County with a determination to put the game away early and coast to a championship win and that’s exactly what happened.

The Bulldogs opened up with a 7-0 run in the first quarter and never looked back.

Throughout the first quarter, Metcalfe County manged to get to within four points a couple of times, but the lead was never in reach for the Hornets as Clinton County finished the period with a 7-0 run to lead, 25-13.

That run continued into the second quarter as Stockton made two field goals for a 29-13 lead.

Metcalfe County came back with a three pointer, but at the 6:12 mark, Harlan knocked down a field goal for a 31-16 lead.

At the 3:21 mark, Guffey hit a field goal, followed by two three pointers by Harlan for an 8-0 and a 41-24 lead.

Clinton County finished the quarter with four points and went into the locker room at the half with a 45-29 advantage.

During the third quarter Clinton County really made strides to extend its lead.

As the eight minute quarter progressed, Clinton County had put up 22 points compared to Metcalfe County’s 13. To start the final quarter, Clinton County had a 67-42 lead.

The Bulldogs did get outscored in the final quarter, 16-14, but cruised on to be named 16th District Champions with a final score of 81-58.

Several Bulldogs came off the bench to contribute to scoring including, Cohen Davis, Nick Delk and Adam Hay, each with two points.

Noah Pruitt grabbed a rebound and made a put back during the first half of Clinton County’s first round regional win against Allen County/Scottsville on Sunday. The Bulldogs will play Friday night in the semi-finals against Bowling Green.

Evan Dearborn put up a three pointer during the first half against Allen County/Scottsville in the opening round of the 4th Region Tournament held at WKU’s Diddle Arena.

Chase Stines drove the lane and got fouled during the first half of Clinton County’s first round victory against Allen County/Scottsville in the regional tournament. Stines finished with 12 points.
