Top Golf Dawgs reach “The Show”

It was a big day Monday for the Clinton County High School Golf Dawgs at the Regional Tournament.

When the rains had ended, and the afternoon rounds were concluded, our Golf Dawgs had not one, but TWO golfers who had qualified to compete in next week’s KHSAA State Golf Tournament at Bowling Green Country Club.

Kudos and congrats are certainly in order for our top two golfers who have burned up the course all season – Evan Shelley and Sawyer Stalcup.

Both Sawyer and Evan put together great rounds Monday at Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park to qualify for the next step. Sawyer fired a one-under par 71 to finish second overall in the regional field, while Evan finished the day with a four-over par 76.

I’ve had the good fortune of watching these young men play several times this season while out photographing matches, and I must say they are certainly impressive – both on the course, and the way the conduct themselves off the course. Believe me, Clinton County can be proud of the way the two young men will represent us next week in Bowling Green.

Congrats – to both boys, and especially to their parents on this accomplishment.

More golf news

While we’re on the subject of golf, congratulations go to Larry Ferguson, who recently had a hole-in-one on the par three fourth hole at Mountain View Golf Course.

Playing with Jim Prince, Nathan Groce and Brent Byrd, Ferguson used a nine-iron to ace the 125 yard hole. Ferguson told me it wasn’t his first hole-in-one ever, with this particular ace being his third or fourth.

Football team stays on the road

Clinton County suffered yet another tough loss on the gridiron Friday night, losing 16-0 at Metcalfe County, taking our season to the 0-6 mark.

Up next, the Dawgs will stay on the road this Friday night, traveling west to take on the Scotties at Glasgow High School.

The Scotties, also a 2-A school, are enjoying a fantastic season, coming off of a 14-7 win last Friday night over Somerset to keep a perfect record thus far, 6-0. The Scotties and Bulldogs have no common opponents on the schedule at this point that would help in comparisons.

Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. The Dawgs will continue with an on the road schedule the following week, traveling to Middleton Christian High in Ohio on October 8 for a game across the river.

Clinton County, after a week off, will be back on Bulldog field the following week when the play host to Green County on October 21, and a season finale on October 28 when we host Eminence.
