The Clinton County Bulldogs Football team are still looking for its first win of the season.

After Friday night’s loss against Metcalfe County, 16-0, Head Coach Jamie Miller said he is still confident his team has the talent to win some football games.

“The first possession we get down inside the 10 yard line and then we turn the ball over,” Miller said. “It was kind of back and forth for the first quarter. Nobody was doing a whole lot.”

During the second quarter, Clinton County gave up a big play that puts Metcalfe County on the five yard line with a first-and-goal opportunity.

“The defense makes a stand and holds them out to about the one/one and a half yard line,” Miller said. “Then we had a mistake on the offensive line and we got tackled for a safety.”

Miller said on the very next play, Metcalfe County ends the series with a touchdown and goes up on the Bulldogs 8-0 at the half.

“We still had some positive attitudes and we had a good talk at halftime,” Miller said. “We were ready to come out and play the game with a lot of heart and desire … we were determined to win.”

To open the second half, Clinton County kicks off and Metcalfe County returns the ball for a touchdown.

“At that point, our heads dropped and all the wind was let out of our sails,” Miller said. “You have to be positive about everything. You can’t get down on yourselves. We have to find a way to play as a team.”

This Friday night Clinton County will travel to Glasgow and according to Coach Miller, the Scotties are favored to win the 2A state title. Glasgow is ranked number one in 2A division as far as wins and losses are concerned at 6-0.

“They are a very solid team. It’s going to be a very tough game for us,” Miller said. “They beat Somerset 14-7 and Somerset is a larger school. I think Glasgow has one or two guys already committed to UK. They have a lot of talent.”

Clinton County’s game will kick off at Glasgow around 7 p.m.

“Our work is definitely cut out for us this week,” Miller said. “We are just going to try to improve and do the best we can.”
