Our Egg Coloring Contest was a huge success! We had a total of 287 submissions, from people ages three to 84! Overall, the Kindergarten age group participated in the highest numbers, with 125 total submissions. The 7th grade age group also had plenty of representation with 62 submissions.
There were 134 books represented on the eggs. The most popular book to use as inspiration was the Bible, which was represented in 13 of the submissions. The second most popular book was Humpty Dumpty, seeing a total of 10 submissions.
The books most commonly picked by kids ages six and under were: I Can Read with My Eyes Shut (7 submissions), The Very Hungry Caterpillar (7), Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? (7), and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish (7).
The books most commonly picky by the seven to 12 year old age group were: the Bible (5), Humpty Dumpty (5), Harry Potter (3), Diary of a Wimpy Kid (3) and Dogman (3).
The books most commonly picked by the 13-17 group were: Diary of a Wimpy Kid (5), Humpty Dumpty (5), the Bible (4), Green Eggs and Ham (3), Where the Red Fern Grows (3), and Fortnite: Battle Royale (3).
Among the adults, the Bible was the favorite with three submissions, followed by Harry Potter with two submissions.
We had a few Honorable Mentions in each age group. We would like to recognize the following individuals for the time, effort and care their eggs showed: Kindergartner Easton Thacker (Little White Duck), 1st grader Jalynn Simmons (A Piece of Cake), 7th grader Katie Britt (A Wrinkle in Time), and 74-year-old Patsy Edwards (Green Eggs and Ham). We would also like to recognize four other individuals for making it exceptionally difficult to choose winners: 1st grader Eva Brewington (Mrs. Millie Goes to Philly), 4th grader Cheyenne Gabbard (American Girl: According to Aggie), 10th grader Alena Garner (the Bible), and 65-year-old Marlena Atwood (The Wizard of Oz).
Our winners are: Kindergartener Harper Thompson (I Am Not a Chair!), 7th grader Carly Byers (Where the Red Fern Grows), Senior Abby Scheffler (Steel Heart), and 36-year-old Ashley Duvall (Peter Pan).
All of you did a fantastic job. It was very apparent how much time, effort and creativity went into coloring the eggs. We loved seeing each and every submission.
All of us here at Clinton County News would like to express our sincere thanks to all of the people who worked with us on this contest. Patrick and Lindsey Padron at Dairy Queen donated gift cards for our winners. The staff at the schools helped pass out papers and worked to ensure that school-aged kids were able to participate. Gayla and the staff at the library had a book for everyone who turned in an egg, displayed them, and helped keep up with all of the submissions. Also, a special thank you to  residents at Clinton County Care and Rehab for your participation; we loved seeing the eggs from you all.
