The Clinton County boys’ golf team placed fifth in the regional tournament held Monday at Dale Hollow State Resort Park by finishing the day with a team score of 323.
Clinton County’s two seniors Sawyer Stalcup and Evan Shelley placed second and third respectively with individual scores of 71 and 76.
Both Stalcup and Shelley qualified for the state tournament as individuals. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s State Tournament will be held in Bowling Green, Ky., at Bowling Green Country Club on October 4 and October 5.
John Crouch teed up on hole number 10 Monday at Dale Hollow State Resort Park as Clinton County was one of two home teams to host the 4th Regional Tournament.
Trevor Riddle watched as his putt for birdie went toward the hole on number 10 at Dale Hollow State Resort Park. Clinton County finished fifth as a team with a score of 323.
Last week, both the girls and boys’ team competed in the district tournament, also held at Dale Hollow, with the boys’ team picking up the district trophy with a team score of 156.
Shelley finished the round with a one under par 35, while Stalcup finished with a three over 39. Trevor Riddle came in third for Clinton County with a 40 and John Crouch finished with a 42. Kenny Stinson finished his round with a 45.
Also in the three-team district competition, Metcalfe County picked up second place with a team score of 185 and Cumberland County placed third iwth a 198.
On the girls’ side, Clinton County defeated Cumberland County by 39 strokes, shooting a team score of 211. The Lady Panthers finished the round with a 250. Metcalfe County only had two players to compete in the distrct tournament, so a four player team score for Metcalfe County wasn’t tallied.
For Clinton County, Senior Whitney Stonecipher earned medalist honors with a 48, followed by Ansley Stalcup with a 51, Addison Bernard shot a 53 and Samantha Stinson carded a 59. Justice Boils rounded out the scoring for Clinton County with a 74.
