The Office of District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway has released a media statement regarding the death of Jill Peterson.
Peterson died after being attacked by six mixed breed dogs of February 26.
Investigators with the Pickett County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney General’s Office began to investigate the circumstances related to the death of Peterson, 88, a resident of Pickett County.
The investigation revealed that a group of mixed breed dogs owned by Holland Hugh Evans, also known as Holly Evans, had attacked Peterson and caused her death. The incident happened in the back yard of Peterson’s home. The dogs and their owner resided next door.
On Monday, April 22, a Bill of Indictment was presented to the Pickett County Grand Jury for it to consider charging Evans with two counts:
Count 1: Dogs running at large cause death, a Class D felony; Count 2: Criminally Negligent Homicide, a Class E felony.
The Pickett County Grand Jury issued a “No True Bill” of indictment which means that they voted to decline to charge Evans.
