Congratulations

graduates, and good luck

The month of May is a special time in Kentucky. Spring is in full swing, and the entire country has its focus on the Commonwealth as millions watch the greatest two minutes in sports, the Kentucky Derby. But more importantly, it’s the time of year when we celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates as they reach one of life’s pivotal milestones. I would like to congratulate these Kentuckians, both high school and post-secondary graduates, on this hard-earned achievement.

Many of you will begin a new chapter in life by pursing a level of higher education; others will begin to enter the workforce. Whatever the next step may be, I wish you all the best of luck in these exciting future endeavors.

As the chairman of the Senate Education Committee, it is my duty to ensure that the Senate puts forth the best policies to promote education that it possibly can. Whether it’s contributing the best funding for students we can through the SEEK program, or working to protect our students with legislation like the School Safety and Resiliency Act, providing the best possible education to our students should always be a paramount goal of the General Assembly.

Next month marks the start of the 2019 General Assembly’s interim period. I will continue to serve as Co-Chair of the Interim Joint Committee on Education, and I look forward to hearing important testimony from stakeholders as we begin to draft bills for next year’s Regular Session. I encourage everyone to attend these Interim Joint Committee meetings if possible, and let your voice be part of the legislative process. If there is anything I can do to help facilitate this, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
